Summer is the perfect time to relax and enjoy a well-deserved holiday. Before you travel, don’t forget to pack a small dental emergency kit—it could save you discomfort and help manage unexpected dental problems until you can see a dentist.

A simple dental emergency kit should include:

  • Toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste
  • Dental floss
  • Temporary filling kit sold in pharmacies
  • Pain relief (such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, if suitable for you)
  • Orthodontic wax (if you wear braces)
  • The contact details of your dentist and your travel insurance provider if on Denplan.

If you experience a dental emergency whilst you’re away:

  • If a tooth is knocked out, keep it moist (preferably in milk or saliva) and seek dental care immediately.
  • If you lose a filling or crown, avoid chewing on that side until you can see a dentist.
  • If you develop severe toothache or swelling, contact a local pharmacist and dentist as soon as possible.

The best way to avoid dental problems during your holiday is to have a routine check-up before you travel, especially if it’s been more than six months since your last visit.

We wish all our patients a happy, healthy, and relaxing summer!
